Abraham Lincoln and his various law partners rented offices in several buildings near the Old State Capitol. The Tinsley Building, where Abraham Lincoln and his partner Stephen Logan moved their law office in 1843, is the only building with a Lincoln law office still standing. Lincoln and Logan parted ways in 1844, and William H. Herndon became his partner.

The building that housed the Lincoln-Herndon law offices was built in the Greek Revival style that also was used on the nearby Old State Capitol.


Abraham Lincoln undoubtedly planned strategy, wrote briefs, and talked politics in his third-floor law office.


The second floor of the Tinsley Building housed a federal courtroom from 1841 to 1855.


Seth Tinsley rented out a portion of the first floor of his building for use as a post office.
