LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY & MUSEUM

When fully complete and open to the public, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum will be a tremendous addition to Springfield’s current wealth of Lincoln treasures. The library will be used by scholars for Lincoln research but also will provide space for group meetings. The museum will be of most interest for student visits. Its exhibits will include scenes depicting Lincoln at various points in his life from his childhood through his presidency. It also will house a special effects theater with three screens and surround sound, rotating displays from the state’s collection of Lincoln artifacts and a holographic theater.

The opening of the library, now scheduled for the summer of 2004, was delayed because of problems maintaining the temperature and humidity at levels necessary to preserve some 12 million documents. The museum is scheduled to open in the fall of 2005. The complex will cost more than $100 million.
