The current Statehouse,
completed in 1888, took 20 years to construct. It has been estimated to
contain 20 million bricks, 750,000 cubic feet of cut stone and 2,400 tons of
iron. It houses the Governor’s Office, the House and Senate, and the offices
of several other state officials.

In order to support the massive Statehouse dome, the limestone walls of
the foundation are 17 feet thick. |
